Cool…new duchessa

Those Duchessa girls have been busy designing some great new colours of necklaces which we have in store right now.   Hues of amethyst, citrine, opal, peridot and aquamarine are glittering away in my showcase, complemented by mounts of either gold or gunmetal.

Cool…new Normann Copenhagen

At Maison&Objet last week, I fell in love with Normann Copenhagen’s new collections.   I’ve put in the order and will go into more detail later but I wanted to share with you two beautiful images of their new collection of products including the fabulous new bedlinen and their new ceramics.    Gorgeous….

Cool…downtown from behind

Cool…downtown from behind

Today I had the pleasure of being photographed by fellow Aussie and talented photographer, Bridget Fleming.   Bridget moved to NY in 2008 and started on a project to photograph more than 200 streets in the downtown area of NYC- the cool part of town.   Her blog, Downtown from Behind, is a little bit social study, a little bit journal and a whole lot  of fun. The project is filled with images of creatives zipping along on their bikes.   She is here to shoot a feature for Home Journal on the artists and designers of HK.

Unfortunately, I had to admit that I only learnt to ride a bike recently and I still can’t ride in a straight line (my parents wouldn’t let me have a bike).  But no worries, the HJ team brought me the cutest bike ever to pose with- a bike from the London Taxi Company- a gleaming piece of matt black metal, chrome and brass.   Bridget was great to work with, very quick and easy and made me relax straight away- quite difficult when you are frightened you are going to fall off and make a fool of yourself on camera.   I hope I looked like I was having fun because I was!

She even graciously consented to pose for me as you can see.   Her photos will appear in May’s issue of Home Journal.

Ps.   Have you seen how hip Home Journal is getting?  You can pick up a copy at your newsagent and check it out….

You can get a London Taxi bike here.

Editor’s note:  I know I wasn’t wearing a helmet when riding my bike, but kids (esp. mine), make sure you do!

Cool…tattoo parlour by Louboutin

Cool…tattoo parlour by Louboutin

I just got back from Paris, but I am quite tempted to hop back on the plane and high tail it back to the Louboutin atelier to order my custom embroidered shoes.   If you do read this blog, you might have noticed that I have a bit of a thing for custom made things.  Is it because I am so short that nothing ever seems to fit? or is it just the idea of the luxury of it all-someone slaving away to produce something just for you?

However, I digress.  Back to shoes.  There has always been a tradition of getting your crest or initials embroidered onto your shoes.  Now, in a unique 21C twist,  you can visit four Louboutin boutiques around the world and get your own shoes custom embroidered with a tattoo of your own design.   If you are like me and the thought of having needles and ink stuck into your body gives you the shivers,  you can live out your bad boy/girl fantasies with your shoes. Although I have to admit that Mme Villiers reworked looks cute in her Louboutin tattoos.   At probably around the same price as a good tattoo artist- it is totally without pain & you can take it off when you want.

There are a few styles to choose from for both men and women.  You could be daring and choose the highness platform pump but for me , I’d love the understated luxury of a rollergirl flat embroidered in beads in an amazing design.

The service is offered in Louboutin’s men’s boutiques in Paris, London, New York and Los Angeles starting from

February 2013 and takes 3 months from the date of order.

ladys and gents

ladys and gents

Stylist Estee Stanley and designer Jenni Kayne have just launched a mini version of the Sartorialist called Ladys & Gents.    Mini meaning kids and  without  Scott Schuman’s excellent photography. I’m all for kids looking cool but maybe putting them on a website is a little much?  And it doesn’t it just prove that if you  shop at Bonton and Bonpoint you can make it onto this site.  Anyway, you decide…would you submit your kids’ pics here?

Curtains, curtains, curtains…

Curtains, curtains, curtains…

Those clever Bouroullec brothers have been at it again- developing a new curtain system available world wide through Ligne Roset.  Available in around  6 colours, the curtains , thoough not light proof, are idiot proof to install.  You just need a drill to install.

For those of us lucky enough to live in Asia, the ability to get custom made curtains at a reasonable price are a dream to many.

If you are live elsewhere, this could be a god send.

I love the matching coloured wall brackets and rope.

Designs for nature by nikari

Designs for nature by nikari

I have a thing about chairs held together by tension, linen and beautiful wood.   This chair from Finnish company Nikari and designed by Jasper Morrison and Wataru Kumano is part of the Designs for Nature series that Nikari completed in 2012.   Each month they released a design that was sustainable and beautiful.  You can check out more of the project here.

But back to this beautiful chair which celebrates the beauty of making things.   Each part can be assembled with ease and the design would fit equally into a country house as well as a city pad.

nature @ Maison et objet 2013

23 January 2013

nature @ Maison et objet 2013

I’ve been a bit offline these days as I have taken myself off to visit Maison et Objet in Paris, an event billed as the largest design event of the world.   This year, nature rules.   Crushed natural fabrics, textures and lots of animals both dead and alive influenced the designs.

I was amazed at the displays of some of the brands.  Some businesses used the 5 m high ceilings to give their stand a lofty feel and filled it with so much stock  that the idea of moving that stock around is rather overwhelming.

There were so many great things that it is so difficult to choose what to look at.  However, as I chose the last 2 days to visit, I used the time to visit current suppliers and to seek out gaps in the Eclectic Cool range.

I focused on current suppliers- so you will be pleased to know that I have tons of new GUBI (new pieces) and Henry Dean (heaps of new shapes & colours)- and we will be introducing a few new brands to the range-mainly textiles and ceramics.   I’m very excited about it all.

By Lassen

We couldn’t believe that no-one in HK stocked these amazing candlesticks and bowls.   By Lassen was founded by Søren Lassen and Nadia Lassen, the grandson and greatgranddaughter of renowned Danish architect Mogens Lassen.   The beautiful elegant designs of his candlesticks, designed according to Bauhaus principles, looks as good as it did when it was designed in the 60s.
