Cool…simple interior apartment design

Cool…simple interior apartment design

This interior shows how easy it can be.   A combination of a simple palette, furniture choices that use form as its main adornment. The addition of some natural textures- the wooden bowls and marble  mixed with some great lighting and of course the addition of some natural light &  you have an interior that is stylish and easy to live & with.

Some key pieces that make this interior:vintage Jielde lights, both freestanding and wall mounted.   Eames chairs which are simple & sculptural. The Muuto dots hanging in the bedroom & some great graphics. You can look on Etsy for something similar.

All it needs is some rugs to soften the hard lines.  I think something in black and white would do the trick or a neutral jute. Check out the rugs in our store.      What do you think?  Too  austere or does this interior have a restrained beauty?

Po Hing Fong store

22 December 2012

Po Hing Fong store

I have been a bit slack in terms of getting the images out of the website of the renovated store.  We added lots more shelves, lighting, a Kvadrat cloud and more furniture!

We’re enjoying the additional space and ambience of the store.  But remember, the store is only a showcase & taster for what we do…keep on checking back with us- lots more in store in 2013.

Btw, having a few problems uploading images onto the website but we will be closed from the 25th of December  & re-opening  10th January with heaps of products ready for Chinese New Year.

See you then.   Joanne

Cool…day birger et mikkelsen home

Most of you are probably familiar with the clothing brand of Day Birger et Mikkelsen.  I love their men’s collection & once impressed a salesman in Copenhagen by buying 15 pieces of clothing for my husband in less than 10 minutes (they were all so lovely, I couldn’t decide).

I am a huge fan of Lonny mag, so this month’s edition, featuring the country home of Day and Mikkelsen.   Sometimes black and white can look so cold but in this case- I can’t fault anything…I love the mix of  classic furniture shapes with antiques and the fab textures.

Love this!.

PS I sold out of all my Beni Ouarain rugs- but don’t worry, more on the way, early next year.

See you in store!

Cool…LV Objets Nomades

Cool…LV Objets Nomades

There is nothing better than travelling with elegance, though I fear that the days of travelling with large leather trunks have been over for decades.   Even my humble black Rimowa is now looking the worse for wear after many intercontinental flights.

One of the most fun exhibits from the recent Design Miami, was LV’s exhibition of 16 pieces for travel designed by some of the most reknowned contemporary designers around.   My pics are the travel cabinet, a slighty mad, shaggy contraption by the Campana brothers and Atelier Oi’s fabulously luxurious leather hammock.  I doubt anyone would seriously pack one of these objects, even if money wasn’t a consideration, however they are fun and beautiful.  One can dream, anyways.

CHRISTMAS FLOWERS

15 December 2012

CHRISTMAS FLOWERS

Christmas is a time of abundance and appreciating goodness and beauty in all its forms.   This Christmas, I have been looking for flowers that are unusual but still stick to the typical red and greens of the Christmas palette.  I have tried quite a few arrangements, but I think I hit upon a winner here.

This bunch is a mixture of red tipped hydrangeas, wax dipped rosehips and an assortment of berries and pods.   I guess the pods & berries are typically winter growth, but the hydrangeas do remind me of summer, even though these are in an autumnal hue.

I tried a lot of florists this season, but the best selection was at Ellermann in Tung Street Sheung Wan.  There they had lots of christmas options as well as some great containers, including this bark covered one that was around HKD400.   I filled the container with oasis and then started with the hydrangeas , cutting them right down to overhang the edge.   I filled the gaps with a mixture of the berries and pods.  I was particularly taken with the rosehips which were wax dipped.  I have never seen them before but they are beautiful, adding a sculptural quality.

I love natural arrangements, in contrast with a lot of local florists, so I encourage you to experiment and make your own this Christmas.   It’s fun!

Blog I love…F@*k your Noguchi coffee table

Have you ever noticed that the most pretentious piece of furniture in most interiors is the coffee/cocktail table?  This is why I love the blog, F@*k your noguchi coffee table.  It reminds us not to take interiors too seriously…Anyway you can while away a few minutes remembering not to take life too seriously.

& remember…”Good design is as little design as possible” .   Dieter Rams

Shipping container building

Shipping container building

I don’t know about you but are you getting a bit bored with shipping container architecture.  We were doing this kind of design in design school years ago.   I know it is ecological, you are reusing something that is old and worn out. However, it is a box which is not a very challenging shape to work with.  In fact it is kind of easy- ask any 5 year old with a pile of Lego.

Much more interesting is the work of architects such as Shigeru Ban who makes buildings out of cardboard tubes.   They are round and made of paper….now that’s a challenge.
